Florence Florence, or in Italian Firenze, is the capital of Tuscany and the eponymous province, and according to many, the most beautiful city on earth. The city is located by the river Arno, bridged by the Ponte Vecchio and is characterized by the renaissance style. Also, famous historical figures such as Brunelleschi, Leonardo Da Vinci and Michelangelo were born here, or have lived in this city. Within this gallery, works of artists such as Botticelli and Michelangelo are conserved here, mostly from the renaissance period. The main image of Florence is the Duomo, or also called Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore, started by Arnolfo di Cambio, followed by Giotto, whereas the dome was placed by Brunelleschi. Small steps in this dome will lead you to the top, from where you will have a great view of the city. Another church, situated in the east of this city, is named Santa Croce, where the graves of Michelangelo, Galileo Galilea and Macchiavelli are established. If you are interested in seeing one of the most famous sculptures of all times, it is the Accademia Gallery you must visit, as here Michelangelo’s ‘David’ is presented, together with more of his work. Some well-known squares are the Piazza della Signoria; once the political centre of Florence and now known for the Michelangelo’s David copy and the Piazzale Michelangelo, built on top of a hill, offering a great view. In order to soak up the great cultural and historical atmosphere of Florence, you can fly to Florence Airport and from there take the car or public transport.
